100!

I hope y’all had a good weekend! My past week consisted of my Wacom Intuos Pro breaking past the point of usability AND my A/C breaking in the middle of a stretch of 90-degree weather. ;_; Fortunately, both issues are now resolved, but… ugh.

The Cintiq you guys funded is still running strong! *knock on wood* But I use it for different tasks that I use the Intuos for. My Intuos 2 lasted forever, and the Intuos 3 I had at my old job was solid. But every Intuos I’ve had since then (4, 5, and Pro) has stopped working in 3-4 years, which is a very short life for a $500 “premium” product. (4 and 5 broke due to USB hardware issues, Pro was a driver/OS issue that Wacom support couldn’t fix.) So, after exactly 20 years of Wacom tablets, I decided to replace my Intuos with a cheaper Huion. I got the Inspiroy WH-1409 v2, which has an almost identical work area to my old Intuos Pro L.

The plastic material and physical design of the Huion aren’t as nice, but the actual drawing functionality so far is great! Pretty much indistinguishable from my old Intuos and maybe even a bit smoother. I never used my Wacom’s eraser, touch, or non-standard nibs, so I don’t miss them. But it does have the features I do need: customizable pressure curve, large size, ability to customize/disable buttons.

And the best part: now I’m actually able to lift my pen away from the surface of the tablet without the cursor then freezing for 10+ minutes. >.>

I just got really fed up with Wacom’s bloated drivers and lack of reliability for the price. I’ve always preferred to buy the best and most reliable thing I can afford and then keep it until it’s truly unusable. But if I’m going to have to replace something every 3 years, I’d rather replace a $200 product than a $500 product.

So anyway, I need to put more miles on my Huion before I’ll *really* know how good a tablet it is. But, in terms of basic functionality, it’s definitely a good Intuos replacement!

Anyway, I’m glad those issues are resolved, but they DID eat the weekend I’d reserved for working on the visual novel. *endless sobbing* That said, I did still make some good progress earlier in the week – finished all of Belmont’s sprite sketches including some fun cooking animations (which you can find on Discord, but I’ll post them to the Secret Gallery by the end of the month), the base sketch for Pogo’s sprite, and a rough of Samsid’s base sprite. So keep an eye out for those soon!
